we go back out to the ranch and don't see any of the "cow herd" and no malachi with our longhorns. we find a note on one of our gates. it's from the man who had the cow herd. he happens to be a neighbor fairly close by and he says he picked up his cows to move them to another pasture and malachi went with him. so we call him up and he takes us to see malachi and says he will be picking up some of the calves later that week and will take malachi then and we can pick him up after.
next weekend we pick up malachi and bring him back to our ranch and put him with our longhorns. everything seems great and then it becomes about 7 pm and all the calves start nursing and we can see malachi looking around and he starts calling out for his mama.
well, the cow herd that he was with happens to be in a pasture that backs up to the 140 acre property so when he calls out to them they call back. he runs off and gets through the fence back with the cows.
we call the neighbor and ask him what he'd like us to do and he said we can just leave him for now and he'll be moving them again in a few weeks to a pasture further away and we can take him back them.
this bull calf is a big headache, but david still loves him.
